The Honorable Governor ________

Dear Governor _________:
Lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer
death in the United States will claim the lives of 163,510 Americans this year alone. In <your State>,
an estimated ____ people will be diagnosed with lung cancer. Of
those diagnosed an estimated _____ will die this year from the disease
(get the information for your state from
the map). In an effort to help build awareness and save lives,
the Lung Cancer Alliance has proclaimed November as Lung Cancer Awareness
Month.
The Lung Cancer Alliance is a national
patient advocacy group for lung cancer. It is the only organization
in the United States dedicated solely to patient support and advocacy
for people living with lung cancer and those at risk for the disease.
I am writing to you to request your assistance
in declaring November 2006 as Lung Cancer Awareness Month in _____ <your
State>. I urge the State of ____ <your State>
to lead the way in helping its citizens become aware of the risk for
lung cancer and provide them with available resources by proclaiming
November as Lung Cancer Awareness Month. With better education, diagnoses
can be found in an early stage, when the chance of long-term survival
is as high as 85%.
You may reach me at ____________ or the
Lung Cancer Alliance at 202-463-2080, with any questions about this
proclamation or Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Further information on
Lung Cancer Awareness Month can be found at lungcanceralliance.org.
We look forward to collaborating with the State of _____<your
State> to help inform its citizens.
Best Regards,
